What's Your Word of the Year?

Updated: Jan 2, 2023

A New Year is upon us again! This is a major time for reflection, gratitude, goal-setting, being intentional, and being present. Many people practice various traditions such as eating 12 grapes under the table, wearing red panties, midnight kisses and toasts, eating a spoonful of black-eyes peas, walking around with suitcases to attract more traveling opportunities in the new year, making vision boards and more. Last year, I was challenged to start a new tradition: setting a mantra for my new year by defining my intentions with one word.

If you have never chosen a Word of the Year, I challenge you to select one now. Choose a word that embodies your intentions for this year. Use this word as a reminder of what's most important to you and let it be this year's theme. Last year, my word was action. This word truly became the theme of my 2022. During that year, I officially launched my website and business, quit a toxic work environment and found a new role that provides the work-life balance and support that I truly desired, finished my first E-book, and so much more!

We often asses our "Why?", but how often do we asses the "how?". Your WOTY can be something that summarizes all of your New Year's resolutions or it could just be what's most important to you and from there you can create smaller goals throughout the year that support your theme. Start to think of the person you would like to be, the things you would like to accomplish, the places you would like to go. Now, how do you get there? What needs to change? What are the characteristics of that person? Are they disciplined, are they risk-takers, are they bold, abundant, authentic, intentional?

Once you have come up with your WOTY, place it as the lock screen on your phone, put it in big bold letters on your vision board, make it your header on Twitter - whatever will keep it at the forefront of your mind. I've composed a (subjectively😅 ) short list of some of my favorite examples for you to choose from if you are still trying to narrow yours down, but remember that these are your goals. Take some time to think about what is really most important to you in 2023. Something that you know for a fact must be amplified in order for you to see the change that you desire or to check those goals off of your list. Share your Word of the Year below in the comments if you'd like. You may inspire someone else!
